Staff Choices
We asked members of the team to pick their favourite item from the stores,Learning Manager Ian Read chose a Scarborough Voluntary Rifleman Jacket.

What is your role within Scarborough Museums Trust?
My role is to develop events and activities to bring the collections to the visitors in a fun and engaging way.
What is your favourite item in the collection?
A Scarborough Voluntary Rifleman Jacket.
What do you like about this item?
I like it more for it’s design than for it’s historical story. It has real resonance with the younger generation both locally and nationally in terms of current fashion. Many of our younger audience wear jackets inspired by this military look, and would be interested in the history behind such garments. Stories that we are lucky enough to be able to tell.
What does Scarborough Collections mean to you?
For me Scarborough Collections is an ‘Aladdin’s Cave’ within the trust. The amount of material culture that we hold here on behalf of Scarborough is staggering, and the stories that they contain is immense. My hope is that the Scarborough population can start engaging more with these collections and in turn connecting with their cultural past, and present.
